Acupuncture for Broken Hearts

Mar 5, 2018

Emotional shocks and the ensuing sadness from the break-up of a relationship are common causes of Heart-Yin deficiency. This condition is made even worse if one is older, or if the relationship has been going on for a long time and and has worn a person down.

Some of the physical manifestations are:

  • mental restlessness, anxiety
  • insomnia – waking up several times during the night
  • dream disturbed sleep
  • poor memory
  • a feeling of heat at night or night sweats

Acupuncture and chinese herbs actually help to calm one’s mind, nourish the heart yin and generally bring the body back into balance. It also releases stuck energy in the heart channel.

I often tell patients the needles help bring emotions up and out – no one wants to feel emotional pain, but by denying it, one prolongs the grieving and healing process.  It may be painful, but there is a beginning and a end.  Acupuncture can help ease the pain and provide comfort during this rough time.
